Old Crossbost photo 1930's. by Moira Maclean

This old photo both pull’s hard on my Heart string’s and inspires me. It’s Crossbost, North Lochs, where I grew up a couple of generations after this crew. My Granny Mary Isabella is on the far right and various sibling’s and freind’s join her. On the far left is her brother Kenneth Alexander who died of TB as a young teenager, she called her 1st son, my father after him. Their family had the Post Office so they were used to rowing across the loch to Cromor to collect mail from all of South Lochs. The mail was taken on horse and cart to the Leurbost road end ( where she was later to build a house, 85 Leurbost) then on to Stornoway.

January rolls on.... by Moira Maclean

January rolls on and for those amongst us that are self employed January means TAX RETURN. My annual visit to" “The Windy Millar’s Accountants” over on the wild west side of Lewis in Carloway is penciled in for this Sunday so I am up to my eyeballs in reciept’s. Always such a relief so get this over and done with.

New Year , New Skills. Joe Mahony at An Lanntair is helping learn to navigate my website and get photoshop and scan savvy. I am keen to scan some of my beautiful wallpaper fragments and give myself creative options to play with.

Merry Christmas And A Happy New Year. by Moira Maclean

Gosh its been a while since I’ve blogged, April was a long time ago, this year has gone whizzing past.

I don’t really do New Year Resolutions but It is my intention to Blog more , to learn how to attach photo’s to this blog, to share information about whats new in my world.

I’m really excited about Sir Billy Connelly’s new program “Made In Scotland”, to be aired on the BBC on Friday 28th december. As part of his grand tour of Scotland he travelled to Lewis and Harris this summer and I was lucky enough to have him drop in to see me at work in my Art Studio. He was very contemplative and complimentary and I am proud to count '“The Bigyen” as another fan of my Artwork. The new paintings I’ve added to my website shop were works in progress on the easel during Billy’s visit, so for whoever the Lucky new owners will be , they can truely say “ As seen in the Billy Connelly Documentary!”

The new paintings are currently on show and for sale at An Lanntair Art Gallery in Stornoway. They are looking gorgeous twinkling in all the Christmas lights if I do say so myself ! I have had a brand new print made of one of my original paintings which I’m chuffed with also displayed at An Lanntair and Artizan Cafe.

Art is an investment I know so I am open to discussing payment plans, and my new limited edition print is available at 3 price points (details available on website shop and at An Lanntair). Please do get in touch if you are intrested in purchasing any of my work.

It’s getting dangerously close to school pick up time and i need to do some last minute Christmas shopping so Goodbye for now and have Yourselves A Merry Christmas and A Happy New year. X

Handmade collages by Moira Maclean

Hello there I guess this is officially my first blog so bear with me! I'm delighted to announce that after 20 years of living and working as an Artist I have finally created a website. Onwards and upwards! I am delighted to share my creations with you and also very excited to have my own shop so buying my work, direct from me has never been easier. I look forward to sharing my artwork with you.

These are handmade collages using the polaroid format. They are made from wallpaper and other fragments of paper I have rescued from the abandoned croft houses on The Hebridean Islands. I call them snapshots as they are like a miniature time capsule, the wallpaper a silent witness of generations. Available in multiples, they work well individually or paired or grid format.
